eCommerce is not an easy way of making money. It can make good money, but it takes a lot of hard work. According to Eurostat, two out of three Internet users bought something online in a 12 month period and used approx. 100-400 € per transaction. The numbers are growing steadily, but the biggest increase in customer behavior seems to be among young people (age 16 to 24). Online shoppers usually buy clothes and sports goods. You can check more stats in the Eurostat eCommerce report.
We have been in the online business since 2001. It all started as a small family business with a simple collection of HTML pages and an order form. There were no marketing involved – and the orders just kept coming in. But then something happened, and it did not work anymore. Then we understood what the standards of an eCommerce platform had evolved to – a multichannel marketing and customer service platform to offer at least the same expected level of customer service as the traditional physical stores. But we did not evolve quick enough. The competition is harsh and it all comes down to three basic things: the product, delivery time and customer service. You need to do experiments with different kind of things (marketing etc.) to find what is working in your niche, and to stand out from the grey growd.
With over 10 years of experience in eCommerce we build robust, secure and user-friendly high-converting eCommerce shops for our customers using mostly two platforms: WooCommerce and Prestashop. Today it is a very easy task to launch an online shop, but to acquire buying customers, that is a whole different story.
